At the age of 55, people can no longer be considered old - in fact, this is nowadays regarded as middle age. It's a time to enjoy life to the full, and cruising is one vacation option you might consider. Not just for the well-known attractions, but also because, at this age, you can enjoy some tempting senior discounts. Your kids are old enough to take care of themselves, so you should start thinking of your own fun again.
Don't start suspecting a hidden catch: even at a discount, the price for the cruise includes everything you'll need during the vacation, except such things as drinks at the bar, tips for the waiters, and off-deck excursions. That shouldn't make you feel old, it's just one option that you have - one option any traveller of any age has, actually. But you can also make it an active holiday, with exercise classes and dancing lessons. You can try your hand at newly learned crafts or test your luck at games. Learn to cook - though if you haven't already, you probably had good reasons - and broaden your knowledge of wine sorts. Keep up with the younger generation by learning how to surf... not the waves, but the Internet. Enrich your cultural awareness through the art or history classes referring to the ports you are about to visit, or improve your conversational skills in some foreign language.
Among virtues, philanthropy is most rewarded on a cruise. You can cruise as a volunteer for assisting travelling doctors with medical care missions; you can help humanitarian aid missions distribute food and clothing to people in poor regions or reconstruct houses after some calamity. Teaching English to local village children is another task you might want to undertake. You will not only earn people's respect and gratitude, but you'll have interesting tales to tell at the end of this exotic adventure.
Try it once, and when the next holiday season approaches, you'll definitely put the TV guide aside and start looking for a new cruise and a new adventure. Bon voyage!
