Book A Cruise For Less

Don't Settle for Less

Does a cruise vacation seem like a dream only accessible to those of the affluent society? You might have in mind images from Hollywood productions of the 80's and early 90's depicting wealthy nabobs (or their young, carefree descendants) going on a cruising spree on their personal yacht. Well, times have changed, and so has cruising.

The cruise industry has been growing at a fast pace the past few years. There are more and more people who choose to spend their holiday on the ocean or the sea, and this enables cruise lines to expand and to afford lowering their margins by offering discounts to vacationers. In other words, you have more opportunities to choose from, and higher chances of finding a cruise that matches your budget.

How do you find such a cruise? Theme packages are the first answer to this question. Many cruises offer package deals with special discounts for different categories of people: families, people belonging to a certain age group, honeymooners, retired people - these are but a few examples. You'll easily find a group you can fit in, and the package deal will save you a lot of money.

They say that "failing to plan is planning to fail". While this may have been tested an proved numerous times, it's not 100% true when it comes to cruising. While it may be more comfortable to book your cruise a long time in advance, you can save a lot of money by waiting till the last minute. The explanation is that, due to non-occupancy or last-minute cancellations, many cruise lines will offer surprising discount rates to fill their vacant cabins a few days before the ships set sails.

Don't be a rolling stone, though. If you enjoy the first cruise, you might want to stick to that line. As a returning customer, you could benefit from a good discount for your next cruise. You might go even further and book your cruise the same time each year. Or, if you feel more comfortable when you're in the hands of an expert, consider booking through a travel agent - that might enable you to enjoy preferential rights from the start.

One final piece of advice: put some effort into the preparation and do some research. Don't be discouraged by the informational overflow of the Internet - with a bit of patience, you can find some great deals as far as both cruise fares and destinations are concerned. They're out there, you just have to discover them.
